I will be visiting in mid-June. I was wondering of a unique and independent coffee house in the areas of West Des Moines, Clive, Urbandale (West Metro).
Coffee Shops in Des Moines SuburbsThere is Java O%26#39;s on University Ave. on the WDM/Clive border (maybe a mile west of I 80/35). I believe it%26#39;s an independent and it has a nice, upscale ambiance. There%26#39;s also a Grounds for Celebration near 48th and Mills Pkwy. in WDM. I haven%26#39;t been there myself yet, but hear that it%26#39;s nice. The other coffee houses I%26#39;m aware of are chains (Caribou, Starbucks, Scooters). I have seen a few drive through coffee kiosks in strip malls, but I assume you%26#39;re seeking a sit-down place. Enjoy your trip!
Coffee Shops in Des Moines SuburbsAs a long term Iowan, I can assure you that the places listed below are your cookie cutter coffee houses. If you want something truly unique, your best bet would be taking a 10 minute drive to Java Joe%26#39;s - located in downtown Des Moines. This coffee shop is very fun and unique- usually a younger crowd but always a few older adults. Most weekends they also have bands, and the coffee isnt bad either.
I second the Jave Joe%26#39;s suggestion, but if you are intent on staying in the suburbs, my vote goes to Java G%26#39;s on University in Clive.
Thank you all for your input. I will be in town this weekend for the political conventions downtown, and will probably get to enjoy Java Joes ( I have been here before, it is a great coffeehouse!!). My hotel is in Urbandale, so I can probably make a trip to Java G%26#39;s ( I thought there was a coffehouse off of 128th and University but wasn%26#39;t 100% sure).
